Artwork will be taking center stage, kids are working on dramatic productions and the next group of students to enter kindergarten will be registering for class.

All the activities are going on throughout the Escalon Unified School District, with the annual Arts Alive district wide show scheduled March 21 through 25 in the old gym on the Escalon High School campus. Students in all grades contribute artwork to the show and there are a variety of hands on activities for students to take part in during the week, with classes from all sites touring the show.

This week, meanwhile, will feature kindergarten registration at Dent, Collegeville, Farmington and Van Allen elementary schools.

Thursday, March 17 and Friday, March 18 are the days, with Dent Elementary offering registration from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, Collegeville from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Farmington from 8 a.m. to 3 pm. and Van Allen from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To be eligible to enroll, a child must be five years old on or before Dec. 2, 2011; provide a birth certificate; provide proof of residency; provide proof of immunizations; provide proof of school physical and dental exams (dated after March 1, 2011) and provide any court custody papers and/or restraining orders, if applicable.

School starts Aug. 15, 2011 for the 2011-2012 school year. All of the forms must be turned in to the school office before a child will be allowed to start kindergarten.

Also this week, the Farmington Follies takes to the stage for the annual talent show this evening, Wednesday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m. and tonight is also the night the Escalon High Cougars football team will be recognized at the SOS Club in Modesto, honored as the Team of the Year for claiming the state's Division III Football Championship. Mark Loureiro, head coach, will be the guest speaker for that event.

El Portal drama club students, meanwhile, are deep in rehearsals for their comedy production, 'Laughing Stock,' which will be presented at the school's Multi Purpose Room on Wednesday, March 23 and Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m.
