Owner/operator of The Merchant Yard at 1455 First St., Escalon, local resident Larry Grossi and his family have erected a flagpole and a plaque at the site of the old lumber yard, in honor of Marvin Schmidt. Transformed from the former Escalon Lumber and Hardware business into a complex housing four businesses, a dedication for the flagpole and plaque is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22. Attendees are encouraged to gather for snacks and drinks following the dedication, with that portion hosted at the Escalon Historical Society Museum at 1630 Main, within walking distance of The Merchant Yard.
