Residents of the community are invited to come and join in the official dedication ceremony of the new Police Department facility at 2040 McHenry Ave. in Escalon today, Wednesday, Dec. 16.

The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. and include remarks from city officials and Police Chief/Interim City Manager Doug Dunford. The facility is being dedicated to longtime Escalon resident and former police sergeant Angelo Dugo. He also served in the military and was a combat photographer, as well as operating a photography studio in Escalon for many years.

Following the dedication ceremony, guided tours of the building will be provided.

Police department members are still settling in to the massive complex, which also includes offices for the recreation department in addition to evidence storage, two jail holding cells, interrogation rooms, and an EOC, Emergency Operations Center, that would serve as the base for operations during a citywide emergency or natural disaster.

Dunford said there are expected to be some special invited guests on hand and remarks are anticipated from either the mayor or mayor pro tem, in addition to his own.

"It will be a fairly brief ceremony," Dunford said, adding that pop-ups are also being brought in to shield the crowd in case of rain.
