County COVID Hospitalizations Reach New Record High

Hospitals in San Joaquin County report having 299 COVID positive patients admitted for care. Demand for intensive care services remains high with adult intensive care units (ICU) operating at 117 percent of licensed bed capacity as of 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14. San Joaquin County hospitals report three patient deaths due to COVID in a 24-hour period from Sunday into Monday.

Monday’s report of 299 COVID positive patients requiring hospitalization surpasses the previous peak demand of 262 COVID hospitalized patients that occurred on July 27, 2020. Hospitals in San Joaquin County are operating at 117 percent ICU capacity with 63 percent of ICU patients being COVID positive.

On Saturday, Dec. 12, San Joaquin County hospitals reported 11 patient deaths, marking the single highest number of COVID hospitalized deaths in a 24-hour period since the beginning of the pandemic.
