Temperatures that topped out at just over 80 degrees during the day on Friday, June 26 dipped rather quickly in the evening, but the crowd that settled in for the Concert in the Park in Escalon didn’t seem to mind at all. They brought their lawn chairs, their picnic blankets, many packing a little dinner, and also enjoyed the free ice cream, being scooped up again this year by Don and Stefanee Bionaz.
“It was fun the first time so, yeah, why not?” Bionaz said of sponsoring the ice cream for the three 2026 summer concerts, one each month for June, July and August.
He said they brought in five gallons of vanilla ice cream, as well as some caramel and chocolate toppings, for the first concert of the season.
The events themselves are sponsored by Gather Around Main, with the Bionaz couple – married just a few weeks ago – providing the ice cream.
Taking the stage for the June 26 show was AIR Trio, serving up a number of classic rock tunes. They also got some of those attending the concert out of their lawn chairs and onto the concrete pad in front of the Main Street Stage to dance.
This is the second year for the summer music series in the heart of downtown and the next event is scheduled for a Saturday night, July 18. Slated to perform that night is ReWind, That 80s Band, with the final concert set for Friday, Aug. 21. Closing out the series in August will be local group Valley Fire with its mix of country and rock.
The concerts run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
There is no charge to attend, no charge for the ice cream; it’s just a way for community members to get together and enjoy a summer evening against the backdrop of music and a sweet treat.
Gather Around Main puts on a variety of events throughout the year and use the slogan “Small Town Roots, Big Community Heart” as their mission statement.
