Community Sees Variety Of Weekend Activities

Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2 and 3, will be busy days in Escalon.

The annual citywide yard sale is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 2 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Featured will be dozens of yard sales, scattered throughout the city, with maps of the sale locations available this week through local businesses and also outside City Hall on McHenry Avenue on Saturday. This year marks the 29th annual staging of the citywide sale, which typically draw in shoppers and treasure seekers from the foothills, Bay Area and beyond.

Two events are on the schedule for Sunday, Oct. 3.

First, residents can take advantage of the Electronic Waste Disposal Day, offered at the Escalon Community Center parking lot, 1055 Escalon Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Acceptable E-waste items are: televisions, computer monitors, computer processing units, radios/stereos, microwaves, printers, telephones, fax machines, cell phones and answering machines. Also accepted at the event will be batteries (no car batteries), fluorescent lights and mattresses and box springs. Residents can bring up to eight units combined, mattresses and box springs, but nothing severely damaged or soiled or infested with bed bugs. No futons, water beds or other furniture will be accepted.

Finally, the Escalon Chamber of Commerce is also putting on its festive and fun Sunday in the Park on Oct. 3, running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This will be the annual pumpkin decorating day in the park, with pumpkins and decorating supplied provided. Youngsters are encouraged to attend in homemade costumes and there will also be vintage cars on display in the Main Street Park.
