Garden Club Session

Escalon Farmington Garden Club members are inviting all interested local residents to attend their October meeting. The gathering is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m., at the United Methodist Church at 25626 Elm St., Farmington. Guest Speaker will be Katie Patterson, speaking on behalf of the South San Joaquin Irrigation District. Her talk will cover a wide range of topics: Drought, Conservation tips and the SSIJD bid to provide public power. The meeting will start with the presentation by Patterson, with snacks, the general meeting, a door prize and raffle drawings to follow. Autumn Tour

The Oakdale Garden Club is holding its annual Autumn Garden Tour on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 and proceeds benefit high school scholarships, civic beautification and the development of the Community Garden. This is the major fundraiser for the club. Tickets can be purchased in advance on Eventbrite, or at Morris Nursery in Riverbank, P&L Nursery in Escalon, The Greenery in Turlock, Park Greenhouse in Ripon and Westurf Nursery in Modesto. Tickets can also be purchased on the day of the tour at House #1, Hutton’s Hamlet, 122 W. G St., Oakdale. Comfortable walking shoes are advised. Holiday Bazaar

On the schedule for Saturday, Oct. 29, it’s the 25th annual Holiday Bazaar at the Escalon United Methodist Church, 2000 Jackson Ave., Escalon. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and there will be handmade crafts, gifts and holiday items, needlework, a drawing for an opportunity quilt, wood crafts, homemade jams/jellies and frozen ready-to-bake homemade pies. Also, enjoy a soup/pie lunch at the bazaar for $10. Call for more information, 2090-838-2792.

 

Weekly Dances

Check out the Golden Agers at the Riverbank Community Center on Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with dancing, socializing, live music and fun for all. All adults 55-plus are welcome. Just drop in to check it out or become a member. Fees are $5 for members and $6 for non-members. Membership is $15; contact Ellie DeJesus at 209-277-5584 or Lupe Padron at 209-573-5014. The Community Center is at 3600 Santa Fe St., Riverbank.

 

Weight Loss Support

All interested are welcome to join TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) a weight support group that meets in Oakdale every Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Community United Methodist Church on Poplar. This group is open to the public and anyone interested in improving their life by losing weight can contact Audrey for more information, call 209-765-7838.

 

Widowed Persons Group

Oakdale Widowed Persons Group invites you to join them the first Saturday of each month for breakfast at 9 a.m. and on the third Tuesday of each month for lunch at 1 p.m.; call for locations.
