City Offers Electronic Waste Disposal Day

An electronic waste disposal day is scheduled for Escalon residents on Saturday, July 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Escalon Community Center, 1055 Escalon Ave.

Offered free, the drop off site will accept TVs, computer monitors, VCRs, radios and stereos, answering machines, cassette or eight-track tapes, microwaves, cell phones and more. Also accepted are old rotary telephones, printers/fax machines and scanners. Collection crews will also accept mercury devices, household batteries (no car) and Styrofoam #6, no peanuts.

This is the third of four scheduled E-Waste events for the year; the next will be on Sunday, Oct. 6. Previous collections were in January and April.

The Saturday event also includes mattress recycling; up to eight units (mattress and box spring) per household can be brought in for recycling. Items cannot be severely damaged or soiled or infested with bed bugs. No futons, waterbeds or other furniture accepted; mattresses and box springs only.

Also through the city, officials are reminding residents that the third session of swimming lessons will begin Monday, July 8 and run through Thursday, July 18. Register at City Hall; multiple levels and time slots are available.

Youth baseball camp runs July 8 through July 12 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Hogan-Ennis Field for ages 6 to 12 and Youth Volleyball Camp will be offered July 22 through July 26, for ages 9 to 14, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Hogan-Ennis Field. These camps are offered by Skyhawks Sports Academy and the cost is $95. Go to www.cityofescalon.org for more information.

Finally, registration is on now for NFL Flag Football, with the season planned from Oct. 19 through Dec. 7, open to boys and girls, ages 5 to 13. Registration runs through Aug. 23; divisions are based on the child’s age of as Sept. 1, 2019, Divisions are 7U, 10U and 14U.

Games will be played in this fun, non-contact football league on Saturdays at Hogan-Ennis Field. Cost for Escalon Unified School district residents is $65 for all age divisions; $75 for non-EUSD residents. Register online at www.cityofescalon.org.
