An Escalon man died as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash earlier this month in Calaveras County.

The incident occurred in Vallecito on Sunday, March 6 around 6:30 p.m. and claimed the life of Spencer Roark, 27, of Escalon. Authorities said a CHP officer observed Roark on his 2021 Harley-Davidson motorcycle in Murphys, failing to stop for a stop sign. The officer attempted to pull him over, but a new release from the CHP indicated Roark accelerated the motorcycle and headed west on Highway 4 out of Murphys, away from authorities. The officer pursued and authorities said the chase reached a high rate of speed and Roark lost control of the motorcycle while rounding a curve in Vallecito. He crossed over into the opposite lane and struck an oncoming vehicle.

Roark was ejected from the motorcycle; emergency aid was given but authorities said he died at the scene.

The crash occurred along Highway 4. The driver of the other vehicle, identified as a 49-year-old woman, and her passenger had only minor injuries, said the CHP.
