All area veterans are being invited to what is being billed as a ‘Homecoming’ – and it’s scheduled for Tuesday, April 12 at the Escalon American Legion Post on Second Street in Escalon.

“Our purpose is to just kind of get an idea of who’s out there,” Legion member Allan Lial explained, adding that they want to welcome veterans of all ages from the area.

Whether they want to learn more about the local Legion or just connect with other veterans, Lial said they will start with a taco truck dinner at 5 p.m. on April 12, followed by a time for visiting.

“It will be over by 7 p.m. because that’s when our Legion meeting starts,” Lial said of the regular Gustafson-Thompson Post 263 monthly meeting.

All those in attendance are also welcome to stay for that meeting, he said, or can just come for dinner and socializing with other veterans.

“We’re not trying to recruit,” he emphasized. “We just want them (veterans) to know we care about them.”

They also aren’t limiting the gathering to Escalon only; veterans from surrounding communities are also invited to attend.

For more information, contact Lial at 209-918-4220. The Post is at 1531 Second St., Escalon.

“Anyone who shows up will be welcome,” Lial said.
