The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) encourages ABC licensees to help prevent DUI, Driving Under the Influence, incidents and check identifications closely to prevent underage drinking during the holidays.

ABC also wants to remind the public to have a plan in place for a sober driver to get everyone home safely. ABC is partnering with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to help keep communities safe through New Year’s Day. ABC strongly advises people to remember to designate a sober driver, use public transportation or a ride-hailing service.

“Let’s keep friends and loved ones safe this holiday season,” said ABC Director Joseph McCullough. “Remember to plan before you celebrate to get everyone home safely. ABC licensees can help keep communities safe by carefully checking identifications and ensuring customers are not overserved.”

The department will be utilizing education and prevention programs, and enforcement where necessary in collaboration with local law enforcement, licensed establishments, and community stakeholders to help make the holiday season as safe as possible.
