Walk To End Alzheimer’s Coming In September

The world may look a little different right now, but one thing hasn’t changed: the Alzheimer’s Association commitment to ending Alzheimer’s.

When you participate in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, you’re part of a community that cares – and that community, which starts in your backyard and stretches across the country, has never needed you more. Over 690,000 people in the State of California are currently living with Alzheimer’s or another form of Dementia and it is the third leading cause of death in the State.

The Modesto Walk to End Alzheimer’s takes place on Saturday, Sept. 12, but instead of a large gathering this year, the Alzheimer’s Association is encouraging participants to walk as individuals or in small groups on sidewalks, tracks, and trails across your neighborhood. This means, that instead of driving 30 minutes to Modesto – you can walk, right out your own door.

With the dollars raised, the Alzheimer’s Association can provide care and support during these uncertain times while advancing critical research toward methods of treatment and prevention. Last year, the Modesto Walk raised $148,617 towards the cause.

“Many large events have been rescheduled or cancelled this year due to the pandemic,” said Cheryl Schrock, Senior Walk Manager. “We’re still coming together in 2020, even if it means trying something new. Alzheimer’s Disease is still here and we need to continue to forge ahead to find a cure.”

To enhance the participant experience leading up to the event, new features including a Walk to End Alzheimer’s mobile app has been created. Walkers will still enjoy a live experience by viewing the opening ceremonies and sharing photos by downloading the app to their mobile device. Organizers are encouraging walkers to find a safe place to walk as individuals or with family, track their steps and distance on their mobile app, and are invited to get in their cars and visit the drive-through Promise Garden.
