SRT Digital Production Available To Rent

Sierra Repertory Theatre is offering a brand new digital production of The Sword in the Stone, adapted by Kathryn Schultz Miller. The magical 45-minute adventure is part of SRT in Schools, a touring program that brings professional theatre to area schools free of charge. SRT in Schools and The Sword in the Stone, are sponsored by Mary Stuart Rogers Foundation, Sonora Area Foundation and the California Arts Council.

Merlin, the winsome wizard of Camelot, guides Arthur through life’s lessons as the young pupil grapples with sibling rivalry and his desire to be a knight instead of a measly squire to his big brother Kai. The 45-minute play is packed with comedy, drama and excitement as Arthur becomes a fish, a bird, battles a dragon and reaches the sword in the stone. In the course of his studies Arthur learned the meaning of “real magic” and found himself worthy of his awesome duty. The show is recommended for students (K-8) and perfect for the entire family.

Meanwhile, producer Scott Viets of SRT issued a statement following a highly successful fund drive.

In September last year, with no income or opportunity to produce shows, the theatre was facing what looked like a very bleak future. We knew we had to do something to keep afloat. Seeing that survival was not just a sprint but a marathon, our online campaign, the Endurance Fund, was created,” Viets explained. “Our goal of $60,000 was raised well before the December 20th cut-off date. In total, SRT raised $79,953. With these funds, we can begin 2021 continuing our educational programming, maintaining our facilities, and support core operating costs while we continue to remain closed for public performances.”

While the live performances are still on hiatus, SRT encourages all interested to check out the digital The Sword in the Stone performance.

“Thanks to you, your donations have provided us with a lifeline during these strange and uncertain times,” added Viets. “We are completely blown away by your fierce support, humbled by your graciousness, and inspired by your dedication.”
