Sherlock Holmes Production On Stage At Fallon House
Sherlock

Playing at the Fallon House Theatre through Sept. 30, Sierra Repertory presents Ken Ludwig’s ‘Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery,’ a fast-paced comedy that faithfully hews to Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel about Holmes and Watson vs. evil.

The production is being staged at Sierra Rep’s Fallon House Theatre in Columbia State Park.

Tickets for Baskerville can be purchased online at www.SierraRep.org, or by phone at (209) 532-3120, or by visiting the Box Office (Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at the East Sonora Theatre, 13891 Mono Way in Sonora. Performance times at the Historic Fallon House Theatre in Columbia State Park are Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 2 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. Ticket prices range from $32 to $47. Discounts for seniors, children, and students (18 and over with student ID) are available for all performances. Special discounts for groups of 20 or more are also available.

The game’s afoot as male heirs of the Baskerville line are being murdered one by one. The renowned sleuth Sherlock Holmes, along with his trusted sidekick Doctor Watson, must work feverishly to crack the curse before it dooms the newest heir. Five talented actors, playing 40 quirky characters, follow leads, unravel clues, hit dead-ends, and zigzag through the story until the shockingly funny conclusion. The gimmick here is that the pair of protagonists are surrounded by an ensemble of three delightful comic actors who play everyone else. Watching the troupe change among 40 different characters, both quickly off-stage (and even more quickly on-stage) is nothing short of amazing.

The production is directed and designed by SRT co-founder Dennis Jones.

“There is inherent humor in Doyle’s stories and playwright Ken Ludwig has so masterfully adapted Baskerville into a play that is all at once clever and funny while honoring the traditional world of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson,” said Jones. “I love creating atmosphere; and I want to wrap the show in as much of the traditional world of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as possible. Then inside of that add the element of the supernatural hound; and then inside of that, add the element of our deliriously funny clowns who represent the cast of characters that make up The Hound of the Baskervilles. Cleverness, ingenuity and humor will make this show terrifically fun.”
