Mother Lode Art Association Plans Show

The Mother Lode Art Association will hold its 65th Anniversary Art Show at the Sonora Opera Hall, 250 S. Washington, Sonora, Sept. 28 through 30. The proceeds from the show benefit Tuolumne County school art programs.

Juried by renowned watercolorist Dan Petersen of Ripon and Signature Western and Pastel Societies Artist Gerald Boyd of Galt, the event will showcase amazing local and regional artists’ works.  Monetary awards and ribbons will be presented to the first, second and third jurors’ choices in five categories: Acrylics/Oil, Watercolor, Mixed Media/Graphics, 3D Sculpture/Pottery and Pastels. In addition, prizes will be awarded for the Best of Show, Mayor’s Award, Best Autumn Theme and Peoples’ Choice.

All are encouraged to come and see the show and cast a vote for your favorite.

Admission is free for all events. An opening reception for artists and the public will be held on Friday, Sept. 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with awards presented at 7 p.m. Appetizers will be provided by MLAA, wine will be poured by Gianelli Vineyards and Inner Sanctum Cellars and music will be by DMV. Following the reception, the show continues Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On the final day, a drawing for the public will be held at 3 p.m. The grand prize will be the ceramic owl sculpture “Moon Shadow” by Marta Magistrali, Best of Show winner of the 64th show. Other items for the drawing can be viewed throughout the show. Opportunity tickets to participate in the drawing are available now in Aloft Gallery or in the Opera Hall during the show. Winners do not have to be present at the drawing to win.
