The 41st Annual Quilt and Cloth Doll Show is being presented by the Manteca Quilters on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 at the Wentworth Center, 2707 Transworld Drive in Stockton. More than 100 quilts, soft dolls and wearable arts will be on display.

All quilts and dolls have stories having to do with who, what, where, when, why or how they were made. Those attending the show will have a chance to vote for their favorites. Viewers Choice judging will include awards for Best Quilt, Machine Quilting, Hand Quilting, Needlework, Appliqué, Wearable Art and Doll. Voting is on Saturday. Ribbons will be awarded on Sunday morning.

There are free demonstrations and classes presented by the Guild’s members. The show features a Members’ Boutique and resale items, fabric and craft vendors. There will be a ‘Stitch to Win’ where participants are taught how to hand quilt by putting in a few hand stitches on a small quilt. All who stitch will have their name entered in a drawing to win the small quilt.

Thirty baskets filled with a variety of items will be raffled off. Some will have handmade items, and many will have fabric and candy plus items relating to the theme. The Doll Basket is the yearly favorite and comes with the Doll, American Girl size, and handmade doll clothes.

Cindy Thompson is the featured artist. She is best known for her award-winning Art Quilts inspired by photographs and turning fabric, inks, thread using various mediums into realistic art quilts. Her works have won various ribbons and awards. She has been published in Art Quilting books, galleries and quilt shows. Her techniques and style of quilting is more of a realistic nature which can vary using various mediums from fusing, piecing, painting thread paining, designing patterns and putting a modern spin in her work. She is inspired by visiting Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and its beautiful surroundings.

This year’s Opportunity Quilt is titled “Romance Blooms in Spring,” made by Guild members and quilted by Jan Truscott. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The drawing will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and the winner need not be present to win.

Hours for the show are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 8. Admission is $7 per day and children 12 and under are admitted free. A two-day pass is $10. On-site food will be available from On the Scene Cuisine Café. The show location is off Highway 99 at Arch Road in Stockton.

Proceeds from the event; ticket sales, raffles, etc., will help support the Guild’s contributions to its many causes. Among these are quilts, pillowcases and backpacks for kids, hats and bonnets for cancer victims, caps for preemies, hospice gowns for AIDS patients in the San Joaquin County Hospice Group, and contributions to Friends of the Library.
