Stanislaus County Library’s Author Talks series was kicked off in July to delight a local audience with renowned authors Alka Joshi and David Allen. The online series continues in August, featuring authors that will enlighten and inspire their readers with works of both fiction and non-fiction. The online program is open to residents throughout the area, all who want to join in and hear the authors discuss their work.
Dr. Marcia Chatelain will discuss, “Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America” during a virtual Author Talk on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m.
This Pulitzer Prize-winning book uncovers the intersection of capitalism and racism in a surprising history of cooperation of fast-food companies, black capitalists, and civil rights leaders, who believed they found an economic answer to racial inequality.
“Long Bright River,” by New York Times best-selling author Liz Moore, is the subject of the Author Talk taking place on Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 6 p.m.
Drawing on deeply personal volunteer work, Moore spins a story that is both graphically honest and dignified. The book puts a very human face on the effect that addiction can have on generations of families and communities.
Dr. Michele Harper will share the lessons learned on her inspiring personal journey of discovery and self-reflection on Monday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m., as written in her New York Times best-selling memoir, “The Beauty in Breaking.” Her story, as a female, African American ER physician, involves beginning a new life, in a new city, in a new job, as a newly single woman.
On Thursday, Aug. 25 at 9 a.m., New York Times best-selling author, researcher, and executive adviser Liz Wiseman will discuss her latest book, “Impact Players: How to Take the Lead, Play Bigger, and Multiply Your Impact.” She discusses why some people break through and make an impact, while others get stuck going through the motions.
The ongoing series of Author Talk is offered via Zoom. Participants have the opportunity to submit questions for the author when they register for the events.
