Gallo Staging Classic Drama This Weekend

The Daytons are a progressive white couple in San Francisco. It is the tumultuous 1960s, and their daughter Joanna arrives home with Dr. John Prentice, an African American physician. They want the Daytons’ blessing for their marriage – today. Based on the iconic film ‘Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner’ written by William Rose, adapted by Todd Kriedler, it’s a witty, insightful reflection on two families confronted by their prejudices. This eagerly awaited production from the Gallo Center Repertory Company is directed by Heike Hambley.

The cast includes Dyanne Durr as Hillary; Cheryll Knox as Tillie; Charlene West as Christina; Jim Johnson as Matt; Krista Serpa as Joanna; Adam Torrian as John; David Keymer as Monsignor Ryan; John Ervin III as John Senior, and Wanda Bonnell as Mary.

Three performances are scheduled: Friday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m.

A special panel discussion will follow the Sept. 26 matinee.

Tickets are $15, $20 or $30. The ticket office is at 1000 I St., Modesto and is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 6 p.m.

The show is sponsored by Ceres Pipe and Metal.

Following the current mandate by Stanislaus County, the latest guidelines from the California Department of Public Health and the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Gallo Center for the Arts and its resident companies now require that all patrons, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks while attending a performance. This includes when entering the premises, in the lobby areas, and inside the theater. The only exception is when a patron is actively consuming food or beverages where permitted in the venue.

As of Sept. 20, 2021, the Gallo Center and its resident companies are also requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to entry for all patrons 12 years of age and above, as well as staff, volunteers and contractors.
