Dickens Faire Kicks Off December Mansion Events

Coming up at the McHenry Mansion in Modesto are several holiday-themed events, open to all throughout the month of December. Make plans now to attend some of these special family-friendly activities.

First up, the Dickens Faire, scheduled on Saturday, Dec. 3. Food and craft vendors will be set up on 15th Street and McClatchy Square from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The McHenry Mansion will be decorated in all its holiday finery for the Faire. Free walk through tours from 9 a.m., closing at 4 p.m. Mansion Docents will be on hand in each room. Carolers will sing on the front porch beginning at noon.

Horse-drawn wagon rides will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a cost of $3 for adults; $2 for children.

McHenry Mansion Candlelight Tours are set for Friday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 18.

Walk through tours through the holiday decorated Mansion lit by candles, kerosene lamps and gas lights. Costumed enactors will be on hand in various rooms. Refreshments will be served in the basement.

Tours begin at 5:30 p.m. with the last entrance at 8 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the McHenry Mansion Gift Store either in advance or just before the tour. For more information call (209) 549-0428.

And, in January 2017, new Docent Training Classes begin Wednesday, Jan. 25. Share your love of history, Modesto, and the McHenry Mansion, by becoming a docent. The McHenry Mansion Docent course is held for eight weeks, every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
