Jacob Walden and Sage Davis were recently selected as this year’s Escalon High School recipients of the Trans-Valley League Scholar Athlete award.

“Each school in the TVL got to select one senior male and one senior female student-athlete that achieved at a high level in the classroom as well as in their chosen sports,” said Escalon High School Athletic Director Nate Bartelink.

The honorees from all TVL schools were supposed to have been recognized at a luncheon at Turlock Golf and Country Club, but unfortunately it wasn’t able to happen because of the shelter in place order.

“Jacob played four years of football and two years of basketball,” noted Bartelink. “He was an important member of the football team’s recent State Championship run.”

He was also very active in FFA and earned a 3.96 cumulative GPA. He is ranked 19th in the senior class.

“Sage played four years of softball and four years of volleyball,” Bartelink said. “She was an important member of Section Championship teams in softball and volleyball.”

Additionally, she was a part of the Peer Interaction Team and earned a 4.07 cumulative GPA. She is ranked 10th in the senior class.

“Both Jacob and Sage are the epitome of what a student-athlete should look like. They achieved at a very high level in the classroom, while taking challenging classes. They were actively involved with various things on campus and performed at a high level on the field and on the court,” explained Bartelink. “As good of student-athletes as they have been during their time at EHS, they are even better people. The future is very bright for both of them.”
