Community gears up for hectic few months

Some summertime staples are looming on the horizon for Escalon residents.

The annual Park Fete celebration is starting to take shape, with activities already on the schedule including the recognition luncheon for Senior Mr. and Mrs. Escalon – Dave and Sally Mantooth – at the Escalon Community Center on Tuesday, July 21. The Miss Escalon pageant is scheduled on Wednesday, July 22 at the Escalon Community Center with the Little Mr. and Miss Escalon pageant at the Community Center on Thursday, July 23.

Park Fete Day 1 downtown in and around the Main Street Park starts the afternoon of Friday, July 24, with the full day of activities scheduled for Saturday, July 25, including the annual Park Fete Run in the morning and the Park Fete Parade at 10:30 a.m.

Also, the city will once again participate in National Night Out, coming up Tuesday, Aug. 4. Neighborhood gatherings and block parties are encouraged, as city residents turn out to meet with police, firefighters and city officials in the relaxed summer evening setting, with the goal to strength community partnerships.

Anyone interested in hosting a neighborhood event or learning more is asked to contact the Escalon Police Department at 209-691-7301.

Those planning a family event this summer can also contact the city to reserve the covered picnic area at Hogan-Ennis Park that includes picnic tables, barbecue access, lighting and a sink, with the park playground and horseshoe pits close by as well.

Rates range from $55 to $110 for residents; $110 to $165 for non-residents.

City meetings currently on the schedule for July include the Recreation Commission meeting on Wednesday, July 8 at 6:30 p.m.; Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m.; and the City Council meeting on Monday, July 20 at 7 p.m., featuring the Landscape and Lighting District, LLD, assessments. The council meeting of Monday, July 6 has been cancelled.

Sign-ups are also ongoing for the co-ed adult soccer league, with the online sign-ups continuing through July 15. The 7v7 league is for nine to 14 players per team, 16 and older, with an eight-game season planned from Aug. 2 through Sept. 27.

Youth Flag Football sign-ups start on July 8 and run through Aug. 16, open to boys and girls ages five to 14, with the age of as Oct. 1, 2026. Games run from mid-October to mid-December, an eight-week season. To register for either of those sports programs, visit teamsideline.com/escalonrecreation
