Tennis Team Ready For Section Play

Friday, April 26 the Escalon Cougars played in the Trans-Valley League Tennis Tournament. Saturday was the qualifier for Individual Sections.

Both days saw plenty of success for the netters, said first year head coach Jackey Blakeley.

All League Players selected for the Cougars include: Wyatt McCune, Mya Beary, Mikayla Schut, Jack Fitzgerald, Eli Lattig, Elizabeth Shelley, Ella Adams and Madelyn Page.

Taking home the honor as a TVL was Mya Beary at girls number one singles, topping teammate Mikayla Schut in the finals, with Schut taking second place honors. The number one boys doubles pairing of Jack Fitzgerald and Eli Lattig also took first place, named TVL champs, while second place finishers in doubles play were boys number two Evan Shafter and Dylan Criteser, girls doubles number two Madison Faria and Faith Yost.

Individual Section Qualifiers were: Mya Beary and Mikayla Schut for girls singles, Wyatt McCune and Elizabeth Shelley for mixed doubles.

Individual Section qualifiers will play Thursday and Friday, May 2 and 3 at Oak Park in Stockton.

The Cougars had a first round bye in team section play and will host Liberty Ranch on Wednesday, May 1 at 3:30 p.m.
