A busy week of volleyball was on the schedule for Escalon's varsity Lady Cougars, as they played a pair of home games, hosted a few contests in the Golden Valley Tournament, and then went to Merced to play more tournament games.

Hosting Central Catholic on Tuesday, Sept. 9, the girls won 3-0, topping the visitors 25-10, 25-9, 25-9.

"It was just kind of uneventful," coach Teresa Williamson admitted. "It was our first home game and they just played pretty well."

Katie Aprile had 19 assists, Kaitlyn Brayton added 21 kills and Lindsey Anderson notched four aces. Against Orestimba on Wednesday, the Lady Cougars were in control for the first two, 25-9, 25-13, then let up a little, giving the Warriors a chance to compete.

Waking up before it was too late, the host Escalon team took the third game to win the match 3-0, edging out Orestimba 25-22 in the finale.

"Amanda Franklin had 15 assists, Kaitlyn had 13 kills and Rachel Leal had three aces," said Williamson. "The third game, they (Orestimba) got a little motivated and we got a little sloppy, but we picked it up at the end."
