Members of the weekly El Portal Bowling League have seen their season come to an end, wrapping it up recently on the lanes at McHenry Bowl.

“The virus has shut us down so we’re not finishing our last four weeks,” explained league secretary Janice Alcantor. “Trophies will be given out when we start our new season September 10 if COVID-19 permits.”

Leading the way in what turned out to be the final Thursday morning competition recently was the team known as Foxie Ladies, rolling to the top with a mark of 31-21.

They were followed by Elaine’s Travel, 29-23; Bartelink Dairy, 27½-24½; Dutch Girls, 25½-26½; Pin-Ups, 25-27; Escalon Body & Frame, 24½-27½; Val De Rose, 24-28; Always Trying, 19-33.

For the week, Ruth Sonke bowled a 156 to record the high scratch game, while Anita Hay turned in a 440 scratch series. Gaynl Allec had a 214 high handicap game and 595 high handicap series for the week.

With the recent week being the last one in the shortened season, final standings for the year were announced. Co-winners this season were Foxie Ladies and Val De Rose.

Foxie Ladies team members are Gaynl Allec and Erlene Price and those making up the Val De Rose team include Velma Vasconcellos, Delores Borba and RoseAnn Dugo.

Individual honors for the season went to: Kelly Homen, 160.29 high average; Anita Hay, scratch series 507; Ruth Sonke, scratch game 212; Ali Van Ryn, handicap series 695; Lenny Nottley, handicap game 256. Bowlers must have completed a minimum of 58 games to be eligible for any league award.
