Competing Friday evening, May 17 in the Sac-Joaquin Masters Track and Field Meet at Davis Senior High School, Escalon senior Zach Pickett ran both the 200 and 400 meters. Each event had four heats that qualified the heat winners and the next fastest four times to finals on Saturday.

In the 400 meters, Pickett finished first in his heat to automatically qualify for finals and rank him fourth in the competition. Later in the evening, in the 200 meters he finished 14th overall. Due to stormy conditions, Saturday’s meet start time began two hours earlier than originally scheduled, in hopes to finish before the heavy storms came in. Placing fourth in the finals, Pickett ran 50.16 to just miss qualifying for the state meet.

“The rain and wind did slow times up a bit for the competitors in this event, but Zach competed very well,” said head coach Carrie Nash. “We are all very proud of his efforts and know that he will continue his successes in college.”

Pickett is planning to attend Montana State University at Bozeman in the fall where he will run collegiately for the Bobcats.
