Summer Sports Camps Slated At Delta College
slate1

Delta College Athletics once again offers its Summer Sports Camps for Kids, June 5 through 9, June 12 through 16, and July 24 through 28, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s camps will feature basketball and soccer. Both camps will be open to boys and girls, ages 5 to 13. The camps will take place at Delta’s Blanchard Gym and brand new Mustangs Soccer Stadium.

The camps will be directed by Lady Mustangs head basketball coach, Gina Johnson, and Mustangs women’s soccer coach, Adrienne Sorenson. The camps will focus on individual skills and fundamentals to prepare young campers for the next level of competition.

Coach Johnson’s tradition of excellence as the Lady Mustangs head basketball coach includes: 12 Conference Championships, five State Final Four appearances (most recently 2015), and two seasons as runner-up at the State Championship.

“I’m excited for this year’s summer camps because our basketball program is uniting with the soccer to offer college-level instruction,” said Johnson. “Campers will be placed in age/skill appropriate groups. Boys and girls are going participate in three unbelievable weeks of fun, skills, competition, and have a blast.”

Adrienne Sorenson was a standout soccer player at Sierra College and CSU Stanislaus. Coach Sorenson took over as head coach for Mustangs women’s soccer in 2010. She was named Northern California Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year in 2015. In 2016, the Mustangs reached the State Elite 8 for the first time in program history, in addition to reaching the post season in consecutive seasons.

“Adding soccer as a specialization for our Sports Camps for Kids will be awesome,” said Sorenson. “The young soccer athletes will receive top-notch instruction from our staff in Delta’s new state-of-the art soccer stadium. The campers will love it.”

Coaches Johnson and Sorenson believe skills and fundamentals are the key to improvement. Young athletes will not want to miss this excellent opportunity to take their games to new heights, and have fun while learning.

Basketball and soccer won’t be the only activity at this year’s camps. After a morning sharpening your skills, there will be an exciting afternoon activity. Those activities will feature a variety of different sports, including swimming to cool off.

“Each day of camp promises to be filled with exciting games, prizes, and new athletic activities,” added Coach Johnson.

Sports Camps for Kids Enrollment fees include: $185 for New Camper, $160 for Returning Camper, $25 discounts available for multiple sessions, or, if camper brings a friend or family member.

Delta employees receive a $25 discount.
