Victories against Mountain House and Linden came on the home course for Escalon’s varsity Lady Cougar golf girls.

The match with Mountain House was played at Escalon, and was done as a scrimmage, said coach Kristie Cathcart.

The final score was Escalon 156, Mountain House 212.

Leading the way was Madison Kindberg with a 31, followed by Ellie Cunningham with a 40. Coming in at 52 was Mary Adams, Amanda Rickman and Shelby McCune each carded a 43, with Mikayla Schut rounding out the team effort with a 44.

“This was a scrimmage,” noted Cathcart. “Mountain House is in the south division.”

Back at the Escalon Golf Course on Thursday, Escalon hosted Linden in league play and took a 163-185 win.

“We won but we should be shooting better than we did this week. The weather was perfect Thursday … maybe we do better in the heat,” said Cathcart.

Kindberg again carded the low score for the day with a 37. Adams shot a 40, Rickman and Schut came in at 43. McCune fired a 47 and Cunningham carded a 48.

“We are 2-1 in league,” Cathcart said.

The girls were scheduled to play Sonora on Tuesday, Sept. 12 on their course after The Times went to press. They also were scheduled to start the week by playing in the Yellowjacket Invitational at Micke Grove on Monday.

“It will be a good test to play the course and prepare for our mid-season and season tournament,” noted Cathcart.

Meanwhile, Escalon’s JV golf girls had the chance to play a match on Wednesday against Livingston.

“They only brought two girls. Two of the freshmen got to play against them so they were able to experience a real match,” Cathcart said.

The JV team will have an 18-hole tournament on Wednesday at Escalon, playing twice around the nine-hole Escalon course.
