A home game for the Escalon JV softball squad on Tuesday, April 10 saw the girls put away the visiting Modesto Christian Crusaders in a 14-0 final.

Kailey Costa pitched the first three innings, allowing only two hits while striking out six and she also contributed offensively with a three-run home run in the second inning. Trista Mathews and Alys Zaslove also made some noise with their bats, each rapping out a double.

Katie Karp came in to pitch the fourth inning and struck out two of the three batters she faced. Through she hadn’t pitched in a game in several years, Karp was pressed into service due to an injury to the junior varsity’s other pitcher, Ariel Astabie.

In earlier action in the NorCal Tournament, the girls prevailed in a 7-2 victory over Pitman, gaining a split of their two tourney contests.

The JV team was scheduled to face off on Tuesday, April 17 against Ripon on the road, in a game rescheduled from a March 20 rainout. Heading into that contest, which was played after The Times went to press, the JV squad had a 3-0 record in league play and 11-3 overall.
