It was a 156-202 victory for Escalon on the golf course on Sept. 17, as they took on Orestimba at St. Stanislaus golf course.

“The girls always enjoy playing Orestimba, they are very friendly,” said head coach Chris Casazza. “It was great to get a second league win. We felt like we needed a win to stay in the running for a playoff spot. We set a team goal of 170 and we beat that by 14 strokes. The girls had a great round.”

Elizabeth Allan paced the team with a 37, followed by Samantha Bruns at 38, Taylor Bruns, 39 and Areli Herrera, 42. Not in the top four were Olivia Aceves, 47, and Mia Fernandes, 50.

Thursday, the girls were at Sonora, at the Teleli Golf Course and Escalon carded the victory, 221-247.

“It is by far, the most challenging course we will play,” the coach pointed out. “It is hilly, with lots of elevation changes. The fairways are not level, always slanted to the right or left, and many times the girls were faced with blind spots where they were below the green and couldn’t see the flag from their approach shot.”

But the team found a way to get their third league win, closing out the first half with a 3-3 record.

“This puts us tied with Ripon Christian in fourth with the top three teams getting a playoff berth,” Casazza said.

Carding an outstanding two over par 38 was Allan, having the round of her golf career up to this point.

“She had an amazing round with multiple holes at par, and even a birdie,” Casazza said. “We were all very proud of her.”

The match also featured perfect weather and there were geese, wild turkeys and some deer on the course in the rural area.

“Also, at one point during the round, a fire helicopter came down to one of the water hazards and took on water for what we later found out was a small fire started by a car accident,” said Casazza. “At the end of our round we saw an amazing sunset.”

Allan paced the team with a 38 with other players on the scoresheet including Taylor Bruns, 58; Sofia Da Silva, 62; Olivia Aceves, 63. Samantha Bruns, 69, and Lori Brown, 82, were not in the top four.

The girls return to TVL play on the road Thursday, Sept. 24 against Hilmar, at Turlock Golf and Country Club.
