In-N-Out Burger Pomona Raceway played host to the 66th annual Lucas Oil Winternationals and the 1000th Funny Car race in the 75-year history of the NHRA in action April 9 through 12. Tony Stewart and Matt Hagan doubled up while six-time champ Greg Anderson scored another win at the famed Fairplex in Pomona.
In Top Fuel, racing legend Tony Stewart scored the first Top Fuel win for Elite Motorsports. Team Elite, which has six Pro Stock world championships, bought the operation from Josh Hart during the off season. Hart moved from owner/driver to just driver taking over the seat at John Force Racing vacated by Brittany Force who retired at the end of the 2025 season.
Stewart saved the best run for last, posting 3.683 at 332.51mph in his R&L Carriers dragster to defeat Justin Ashley in the final round. Stewart picked up his third career win in Top Fuel by taking out Will Smith in the opening round, then Josh Hart and Shawn Langdon to advance himself to the showdown with Ashley. In the final, Stewart defeated Ashley with the quickest run of the event.
Four-time Funny Car world champ Matt Hagan took home the 1,000th Funny Car victory in NHRA history on Sunday, April 12. Hagan defeated three-time world champion and most recent race winner Ron Capps in the final round. Hagan and Capps are the two winningest active drivers in Funny Car, and they did not disappoint, with an amazing side by side run under the lights. Hagan put down a 3.876 at 330.39 mph run to Capps’s 3.893 at 334.32 mph to score the victory. Hagan defeated Spencer Hyde in round one, Jason Rupert and then J.R. Todd in the semifinal round. Hagan got to share the Winner’s Circle with his team owner Tony Stewart.
In Pro Stock, six-time world champion Greg Anderson dominated in Pomona. He qualified on the pole and was the quickest of each round of eliminations. He won for the 17th time at this facility and 113th of his career, by holding off teammate Dallas Glenn in the final round with a run of 6.505 at 209.88 in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro.
With his 17th win at the famed Fairplex in Pomona, Anderson tied the Funny Car legend John Force for the most win at this track.
The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series returns to action April 24-26 with the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
