The Escalon Outlaws football and cheer program entered the 2013 season with some big changes, in a brand new league. The Motherlode Valley Football League was created earlier in the year, for small towns that love football and friendly competition. In this past season, Escalon had the opportunity to engage in quality competition, in a friendly family atmosphere with teams from Ripon, Hughson, Waterford, Riverbank, Calaveras, Bret Harte, Sonora, Amador, and Argonaut.

The Varsity and Junior Varsity squads both made it to the divisional championship games and were within six points each from advancing to the MVFL Superbowl. Although the Junior Novice squad does not keep score or a record, they had a great year of learning, ensuring years of future quality football for the Escalon community to come.

The Outlaws Novice team did make it all the way to the Superbowl, where they won big. The Outlaws faced a very good Calaveras team, and dominated by winning 36-0. With the running of Kaidence Trejo and the passing of Demetrius Teixeira to Ty Harris, the Outlaws were too much for Calaveras. Head coach Mike Kelly attributed the success to all the players, stating “it was a total team win.” The Novice team proudly brought home another huge trophy for the Outlaws, as well as, bragging rights.

The Varsity and JV squads also advanced many players to the MVFL All-Stars game, played after the regular season. Rex Robbins, Steven Grossi, Hugo Alcala, Mark DeHaven, Jake Lawrence, Parker Cosby, and Caleb Aguilar represented the Varsity squad well and secured a victory for the Valley team over the Motherlode. Carson Grogan, Frank Leal, Jacob Walden, Johnathan Arbuckle, Grant Pearce, Austin Narayan, and Roman Kualapai represented the JV team well in a difficult Valley loss to the Motherlode.

Outlaw cheerleaders that were selected to join the league All-Stars Cheerleaders include Dalsin Alves, Madison Kimble, Grace Fitzgerald, Jazzy Smith, Karsyn Beckham, Ellie Cunningham, Kaitlin Matsunami, Amanda Rickman for the Varsity squad. Junior Varsity was represented by Kaitlyn Gaffney, Alexis Gaffney, Ashley Levin, Katelyn Karp, Mikayla Schut, Savanna Swanson, Mya Scott, and Veronica Melendez.

Aside from the hard work and enjoyment at the All Star game, the cheerleaders highlighted their season by attending the JAMZ Cheer Competition at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo. The girls were a huge success, winning many awards for their performances. The Novice and Junior Varsity squads each won second place in show cheer. The Varsity squad won first place in performance cheer and third place in show cheer.

After such a great season, the Outlaws would like to thank the community in making its season a success and the invaluable support from sponsors: Escalon Premier Brands, Escalon Plaza Mini Mart, HR Wilson Construction, BBVA Compass Bank, Hiatt Alarm and Sound, H & H Heating and Air, Dutra Ranches, Mountain Mike’s Pizza, The Weight Room, Escalon Body and Frame, Roche Brothers, Lafferty Communities, and Commerce Mortgage.

As players, coaches, cheerleaders and parents reflect on the positive and successful season of 2013, it’s already time to think about the upcoming season. Preparations for the 2014 season are well under way, with registration being set for Saturday, March 22 at the Escalon Library. Returning players will be given priority registration and sign-ups are on a first come, first serve basis.

Exact times, fees, necessary paperwork, and further details will be released shortly and parents are encouraged to regularly check the organization website (www.escalonoutlaws.org) for details. Additional information will be published to the website, as it becomes available.
