Members of the Escalon Wrestling Club had a busy month of June.

On June 18, seven wrestlers went to Fresno City College where they were coached by former Division I All-Americans Paul Keysaw, Rich Bailey and coach Derek Scott. They then sent 16 wrestlers to Ponderosa Camp from June 24-26. The wrestlers wrestled during the day and camped together at night. There were also five adults with the group. Serving as camp counselors were former EHS wrestlers and current college wrestlers Christian Franks, Dylan Furtado, and Thomas Martin. Leading the cooking duties and helping coach Scott with camp duties was Rich Martinez. Scott noted that this is a great team building camp, providing 11 matches in three days in a low pressure environment.

Going undefeated over the three days were Tyler Lawrence, and A.J. Camarena finishing up on a 25-match winning streak. Losing only once were Austin Martinez and Kyle Jimenez. Also wrestling great and losing two matches by two points or less were Marc Camarena and Dominic Freeseha. Coaches were impressed by the improvement of Clayton Jones, Jake Lawrence, Daniel Gonzales, and Justice Redding. Scott also commended Devon Rogue, Daniel Wallace, Colton Camara, Cameron Dubois, who all wrestled well. Then rounding out the summer schedule were A.J. and Marc Camarena, taking first at Oakdale, with Tyler Lawrence taking second and Daniel Wallace and Kyle Jimenez taking third. Coach Scott said he is very pleased with the team’s progress during the off season heading into next year. He was especially pleased with the rigorous off season work done by Tyler Lawrence, A.J. and Marc Camarena, Austin Martinez, Dominic Freeseha, Cameron Dubois, Kyle Jimenez, and Daniel Wallace.

Anyone wanting to wrestle can contact Scott independently and he will open the room.
