Bowlers Close Out Successful Season On Lanes

We Been Robbed captured this year’s championship of the El Portal Bowling League, winning the end of season roll-off against Better Late Than Never.

Members of the title-winning We Been Robbed team were Luann Oney, Nancy Maag and Anita Hay while Robin Aufdermaur, Stacy Lub and Kelly Homen were the second place Better Late Than Never team members.

In the final regular week of the season, Better Late Than Never was on top of the standings with a 41-23 mark and claimed the season’s second half honors. That put them into the showdown with We Been Robbed, winners of the first half.

Robin Aufdermaur swept the top scoring categories in the final week’s action, rolling a 215 scratch game, 465 scratch series, 279 handicap game and 657 handicap series.

Pin Ups and Elaine’s Travel came in at 39-25 in the regular season finale, followed by We Been Robbed, 34½-29½; Bartelink Dairy, Foxie Ladies, 34-30; Escalon Body & Frame, 32-32; Dutch Girls, 31½-32½; Memorial Splitting Headaches, U-3 Ranch, What The Heck, 30-34.

Season ending honors went to Kelly Homen, individual high average, 158.47, and scratch series, 550; Robin Aufdermaur, scratch game, 215; Erlene Price of Foxie Ladies, handicap series, 715; Sandy Cox of Elaine’s Travel, handicap game, 268. Receiving recognition for most improved was Jeanne Brand, bowling for Dutch Girls, improving her average by 16.29 pins.

El Portal Bowling League will donate $1821 to El Portal Middle School for Science Camp and league officials also offered thanks to McHenry Bowl for a $310 incentive check contribution. The new bowling season will start on Sept. 5 at McHenry Bowl in Modesto with a meeting at 9 a.m.
