Otto Waldemar Olsen, 97, passed away at Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital in Grass Valley on Wednesday, June 8.

He was born in San Francisco on Sept. 5, 1913, to Thomas and Emma Kamm Olsen. Otto and his family moved to Escalon in 1916, where he attended school and graduated from Escalon High School in 1931. He served with the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Two brothers, Thomas T. Olsen, second lieutenant in the USMC, and Ewald F. Olsen, private first class in the Army, died during WWII. A sister, Elizabeth Emma Olsen Olson, passed away in 2009.

Mr. Olsen was a plumber for many years in the Bay Area before retiring to Sierra City, where he and his wife, Jeannette, lived until they moved to Sierra View Manor in Grass Valley. His wife, Jeannette, survives him and still lives at Sierra View. They were married over 70 years.

He was a member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge #164 in Sierra City. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, and loved living in Sierra City.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannette; his sister, Dorothy Beckwith of Vale, Oregon; his four nieces, Marilyn De Ruosi of Escalon, Carlene Hawkins of Hornbrook, Bonnie Fovinci of Stockton, and Robin Frazier of Vale, Oregon, and their families.

Arrangements are in the care of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley. No services are planned.
