Mary Evelyn Veil was born March 23, 1928, in Escalon, CA to Antonio and Carmela Bianchet. Mary passed peacefully from complications of congestive heart failure at age 91 on April 27, 2019, with family by her side. Mary was a devoted mother to her daughter, Tammy and son Michael. She started working at eight years of age cutting peaches at a cutting shed. She worked at many canneries and processing facilities, even working as an ammunition inspector at the Norris Thermador Army Ammo plant. She babysat during the off season. Her love of children eventually led her to a fulfilling career as a teacher’s aide at Modesto City Schools, working with handicapped children. She retired at 77 years of age.
Mary loved listening to music, cooking, gardening, yard work, fishing, walking the beach at the ocean and mostly spending time with her family. She had moved to Idaho six years ago to be closer to her daughter where she enjoyed trips around the beautiful Idaho countryside and spent her weekends seeking treasures at yard sales.
She was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Carmela, siblings Tony, Carlo, Mercedes, Joe, Carmen, Rose, Lawrence, Louis, William, Henry, Philomena I and Philomena II. She is survived by her daughter Tammy Drew (Morgan) and son Michael Veil (Melinda), and siblings Olivia Morino, Margaret Hessler, Ruby Bavaro, and grandchild Samantha Veil and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Blackmer Funeral Home of Grangeville, Idaho. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please direct your love to Mary’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis TN 38101-9929.
