Rev. Larry George Wincentsen, 82, died on Thursday, July 28. He passed peacefully in his sleep, of natural causes, while on an extended vacation in Wisconsin.

He was born March 5, 1929, in Wisconsin to Larson G. and Inez (Mortenson) Wincentsen. He married Shirley Ann Svoboda on Aug. 2, 1952. After graduating from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1954, he and his bride resided in New Jersey where he attended Drew Seminary.

Rev. Wincentsen devoted 60 years of his life to ministry in the United Methodist Church. He pastored churches in Iowa, New Jersey, New York, Wisconsin, and California, including those in Escalon and Farmington. He retired from the pulpit in July 2010.

In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs, collecting things, playing games with his grandchildren, and get-togethers with his friends. He also enjoyed being a father to his sons.

Survivors include his wife Shirley; his sons Chris (Darla) Wincentsen and John (Genelle) Wincentsen, of Modesto; his grandchildren Christian, Mary-Kate, Alexander, Destiny, Andrew, Evelyn, Madeline, and Isabel; his brother Bob (Ann) Wincentsen of Indiana; step-brother Don (Ann) Thompson of Wisconsin; step-sisters Delores (Ken) Meyer and Debbie (Darrel) Buch of Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews; and friends too numerous to count.

A Memorial Service is pending.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choosing.
