Harry D. Vieira, 98, of Escalon died in his home Saturday, June 18.

He was a native of Modesto.

He had lived on Van Allen Road in Escalon since 1918. He was a self-employed farmer, a grower of almonds, grapes and melons.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and boating. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Young Men's Institute, Council #88 of Manteca, former director of Allied Grape Growers, Center State Bank, and Central Valley National Bank. He was also a trustee of Van Allen Grammar School.

In addition, he held membership in Blue Diamond Almond Growers, San Joaquin Farm Bureau, Escalon Historical Society and Past President, Charter and Lifetime member of the Escalon Sportsman's Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Arlene Mathias and son-in-law Bob Mathias of Escalon; granddaughters Christine Dowlatshahi of San Mateo, Cathleen Bellino and Cheryl Lawrence of Escalon; five great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, son David and granddaughter Carolyn.

Mass, preceded by the Rosary, will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church on Thursday, June 23 at 9:30 a.m., followed by burial at St. John's Cemetery.
