Carmen Johnston went to be with the Lord on April 6, 2021. She was born to Lucy and Mark Neville October 14, 1930 in Denair CA. She had two brothers Charles and Bill who preceded her in death. Carmen graduated from Hughson High school in 1948. On July 4, 1948 she married Orville; they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary July 4, 2018. Orville passed away September 2018.
In 1952 they moved from Denair to Escalon buying Peterson’s variety store. A couple of years later they moved the business to a different location on Main Street to include clothing and shoes where Runstens’ store had been. In 1962 they opened a dress shop (Cindy’s Apparel). A few years later they opened a men’s clothing store Town and Country. Carmen and Orville often spoke of their appreciation for their employees at the businesses, of their customers and friendships made in Escalon. The friendships they made continued throughout their lives. They felt very blessed and very grateful.
In 1980 Carmen sold the dress shop and went to work for her husband who had opened an insurance business in Modesto. After Orville’s retirement she continued to work in the insurance industry until she retired.
She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, meeting people, gardening and traveling with her husband. They had missionary friends in Mexico and were able to visit them which they enjoyed.
Carmen is survived by her daughter Cindy (Mike), grandchildren Jason (Julie), Elizabeth (Robert), great grandchildren Lucy, Dylan Marshburn, Caleb and Jonah Morgan.

Carmen put her faith in the Lord and His promises. She will be missed by family and friends.
