Alfred Germano, 88, recently diagnosed with cancer, died at his home on Monday, Sept. 20 with his wife and two children by his side.

He was born in South San Francisco on July 31, 1922. Losing their parents early in life, Alfred and his sister Eleanor went on to live with cousins separately in the Ripon area. After graduating from Ripon High School in 1941, he enlisted in the Army Air Force that same year and received training servicing A-26 aircraft. After his discharge, he returned back to Ripon and began working for Franzia Winery in the distillery.

Mr. Germano married Violet Petrucci on Aug. 27, 1950 at St. Patrick's Church, where they still worship. After living temporarily in Ripon, they purchased their home and ranch in Escalon in 1952, where they still reside. Devoted to his family, farm and community, Mr. Germano was a dedicated member of the Escalon Fire Dept. for 41 years of devoted service. He was also an active member of the Escalon American Legion Post 263 for many years in support of his fellow veterans. He was a former member of Tri-Valley Growers; a current member of Blue Diamond Growers. His priorities were his family, his love of God and his love to farm.

Survivors include his wife, Violet; children, David and Diane; and two grandchildren, Kyle and Kevin Vella.

Visitation and Rosary were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Thursday, Sept. 23: Mass was Friday, Sept. 24 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with burial following at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Escalon.
