World Finals Hodgson Races To Solid Finish

It's probably safe to say that Escalon High School student Cody Hodgson has logged more miles than any other classmate this year.

That's because his 2009 included trips to Egypt and Brazil as part of his Kart racing team and he came home with a third place finish in the Rotax World Finals in the DD2 class. That competition was in Egypt earlier this month and Hodgson was part of Team USA for the event.

He was also able to stand on the podium with a pair of American teammates, as the three combined for an overall second place finish in The Nation's Cup, with each driver representing a Kart division and their combined finishes qualifying the American slate for the second place overall honors. It marked the first time an American team finished in the top three at the World Finals and grabbed a trophy.

Hodgson raced to his individual third place finish in the final at Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt. His grandfather, Butch Hodgson and cousin Chad Keyser were able to attend the race with him.

He was there from Dec. 7 through 12, with practices throughout the week leading up to the main event, with a number of 'media opportunities' also staged as part of the festivities.

Prior to heading to Egypt to close out his racing season for 2009, Hodgson was in Brazil for the Granja Viana 500 competition so he put in plenty of miles late in the year, both on the track and in the air, getting from race to race. He went directly from the Brazil race to Egypt, flying to the Rotax World Finals on Dec. 6 and starting to prepare for the competition the next day.

Hodgson has continued to pile up accolades and sponsorships as he has made strides in his sport and he hopes to continue driving.

Off now for holiday break, Hodgson and his family offered their thanks to the community and school officials for the support, noting that high school principal Joel Johannsen, counselor Sandy Pendley and his teachers have worked with Cody to make sure he continues to keep up with schoolwork while on the racing circuit.

In earlier competition, Hodgson was the winner of the national title in a 27-lap main event at the United States Rotax Nationals in Oklahoma this past fall, with that victory earning him the spot on the U.S. Team for the world finals in Egypt.
