Tree Pick Up Offered Saturday

With the holidays now over and things getting back on a normal schedule, it's time to take down the tree and put away the decorations.

To help with that effort, a Christmas tree pick up is scheduled by the Escalon Fire Department on Saturday, Jan. 9 as a joint project of the department, the Escalon Kiwanis and the Escalon High Key Club. Residents can take down their tree, remove the decorations, stand, lights and tinsel and put the tree out by the curb any time in advance of the Jan. 9 pick up date.

Crews will be by at some time during this coming Saturday to pick up the trees. For more information, contact the fire department at 838-7500.

The New Year's holiday, meanwhile, was a relatively quiet one for the local fire and police departments. Firefighters responded to just a handful of calls Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 and police reported an uneventful start to 2010.

One arrest for driving under the influence was reported in the city limits on New Year's Eve, along with a few calls regarding fireworks being set off in residential areas.
