Several dozen people settled in for an evening of food and fun at Saron Lutheran Church in Escalon, with the annual Bunco Night staged on Saturday, Sept. 12. Proceeds go toward the Escalon Ministerial Association holiday food voucher program offered through C.A.R.E., Community Action Resources of Escalon.

Festivities started with a baked potato bar dinner, along with the chance for attendees to peruse the many items available in opportunity drawings and decide which ones to take a chance on.

Then the tables were cleared of the food and the Bunco score sheets were passed out as the rules of the game were reviewed. Officially, they were termed the “Saron Rules” and there were three rounds of play, with a break in between each for the opportunity drawings.

Earning prizes for the night included those players with the Most Wins, Most Losses and Most Buncos. To get a Bunco, those rolling the dice had to have all three dice land on the number (one through six) that was being featured during that particular roll.

And while Bunco night was a success, there will also be another fundraiser at Saron, set for Saturday, Sept. 19.

The Community Pasta Feed at the church, 1742 North St., will feature pasta, garlic bread, salad, dessert and beverages, and you can dine in or take it to go.

Cost per ticket is $10 for adults, $5 for kids. Hours for the dinner are 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.; tickets are available at the church office and can also be purchased at the door.

Proceeds will benefit both the Saron Major Repair Fund and C.A.R.E. of Escalon.

Also at Saron, the Decorated Holiday Pumpkins are being offered, with two sizes available this year. The White Fairytale medium pumpkins are $35 each and the Tiger Stripe mini pumpkins are $12 each. The pumpkins are hand-crafted and individually designed, using Heirloom pumpkins that will last a minimum of two months with minimal care. All pumpkins are adorned with a variety of succulents and moss.

Pre-order only, with orders due by Sunday, Sept. 20. Pick up dates will be Sept. 23 through Sept. 30. Delivery can be done by special arrangement, with a $5 delivery fee for less than five pumpkins to one address due to gas prices.
