The latest in a line of local residents recognized as a ‘Citizen of the Month’ for Escalon was Toney (Van Spronsen) Rose. The recognition program was started by the City of Escalon and seeks nominations from the community. Then, the council honors the selected resident at a council meeting for their contributions to the city and/or its residents.
The October honoree was nominated by Paulette Roberson and presented with a special certificate by Mayor Ed Alves, along with receiving a bouquet of flowers.
“Toney is a caregiver and giver and giver,” Roberson noted in her nomination. “She sees taking care of people as her calling.”
Among the various ways she has cared for people, said Roberson, Rose has taken friends into her home after they have undergone surgery and assists them by making sure they get to their doctor’s appointments or running various errands.
“Right now she is helping a 78-year-old woman. She goes to her house every evening,” explained Roberson, assisting with cleaning and getting things situated for the overnight hours.
“She does all of this without pay and sometimes without thanks, a true volunteer,” Roberson added. “I certainly think my friend Toney is deserving of this honor.”
