Neighborhood kids got together at Latta Children’s Park in Escalon to paint the US flag; they put the paper up on the fence and then got busy on the project to help mark the July 4 holiday. The park is at the corner of Oklahoma and California.

Officials said the holiday passed fairly quietly though there were some complaints of illegal fireworks being set off at various times during the long holiday weekend period. Fire Department officials had a quiet July 4, with no calls for fires sparked by any fireworks displays.
