One man from Tracy and one from Turlock were killed in separate incidents over the past week in Escalon.

On Monday, March 18 at about 2:45 p.m., an auto accident resulted in the death of Anthony Cobarrubia, 60, of Tracy. According to the CHP report, he was driving a white 2005 GMC southbound on Dodds Road. A witness traveling northbound on Dodds Road observed the GMC being driven recklessly in both northbound and southbound traffic lanes, at a speed believed to be around 100 miles per hour, and the witness was forced to drive off the roadway in order to avoid a collision.

The report indicates that the GMC failed to stop at the stop sign at Mariposa Road, crossed the intersection and lost control, driving off the west side of the roadway for several hundred feet. The GMC began to rotate in a counter clockwise direction as it crossed both lanes of Dodds Road, leaving the roadway on the east side, crossing over a drainage ditch, and striking a large pile of pelletized animal feed on a local dairy. The vehicle subsequently rolled over and Cobarrubia was partially ejected. Authorities said he was wearing a seatbelt but suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Tuesday, March 19, about 8:45 a.m., Escalon fire and ambulance crews were dispatched to a report of an accident near the intersection of Escalon-Bellota and Lone Tree roads. Upon arrival, they discovered a man suffering from major trauma after attempting to load a vehicle onto a trailer. The vehicle being loaded slipped off the trailer and struck the man, identified as Marten Yokhanna, 40, of Turlock. He died of head injuries as a result of the incident, according to the CHP report.
