Escalon High School's Class of 2012 will take the stage at Engel Field on Friday night, preparing to start the next phase of their lives as they say goodbye to the place that has been their 'home' for years.

Taylor Morrow will deliver the address as Valedictorian and Daniel Alcantor is this year's Salutatorian.

Morrow, active all four years in soccer, also did one year of Academic Decathlon and was involved in the journalism club. She also was a Key Club member.

"Senior year has been amazing," Morrow said.

Spending high school in Escalon, she said she enjoyed the close knit community that is Escalon High.

"Getting so close to people, I will definitely miss it," she said.

The daughter of Lance and Susan Morrow, she has two younger brothers, Blake, who attends Ripon High School and Carson, attending Oakdale Junior High.

"We're everywhere," she said, laughing.

Morrow is headed to Menlo College on a partial scholarship, where she will continue to play soccer and study in the field of International Business.

The son of Rob and Tammy Alcantor, Daniel Alcantor has been involved in football all four years at Escalon, was a part of the State Championship team his junior year, and did track for one year. He also was involved in Interact and Associated Student Body. He has received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland and will leave to begin his schooling and military training next month.

"I like that teachers get to know you a lot better," Alcantor said of what he enjoyed about his Escalon experience. "Being able to know everybody, I get along with everyone."

He has a younger brother, Andrew, a freshman at EHS this year. Alcantor said he doesn't plan on giving a speech at graduation, but both top students are looking forward to sharing the ceremony with family and friends.

The Friday night graduation will start at 7 p.m. and will be the final of three evening ceremonies this week. For Vista High School, an estimated 20 students will graduate tonight, Wednesday, May 23, in a ceremony at the high school Performing Arts Center starting at 6:30 p.m., and El Portal Middle School will host eighth grade graduation on Thursday, May 24 at 7 p.m. at Engel Field.

Morrow and Alcantor will lead classmates into the stadium on Friday evening, with some 218 students expected to receive diplomas.

Also planned on Friday night is the annual Sober Grad, offered up to graduating seniors so they can spend their final night of high school enjoying a party with classmates in a safe and sober environment.
