Local Pump Prices Predicted To Jump

Modesto gas prices have risen 2.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.92/gallon as of Monday, May 10, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Gas prices in Modesto are 19.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.49/gallon higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.55/gallon on May 10 while the most expensive was $4.39, a difference of 84.0 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state Monday was $3.28 while the highest was $5.89, a difference of $2.61/gallon.

“While average gas prices jumped last week as the nation continues to see COVID-19 recovery, all eyes are now on the Colonial Pipeline and the fact a cyberattack has completely shut all lines, leading to what could become a major challenge for fuel delivery,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “The situation is growing more intense each day that passes without the pipeline restarting, and motorists are advised to show extreme restraint or exacerbate and prolong the challenges.”

The national average price of gasoline has risen 4.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.95/gallon on May 10. The national average is up 10.0 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands $1.12/gallon higher than a year ago.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $3.91/gallon, down 1.9 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.93; Oakland - $4.13, up 5.0 cents from $4.08/gallon; San Jose - $4.13, up 6.1 cents per gallon from last week’s $4.07/gallon.
