Three Vie For Seats On Escalon Council
Escalon City Logo

No additional candidates turned in nomination papers by the Wednesday, Aug. 17 deadline so there will be three candidates running for two available terms on the Escalon City Council in November.

Incumbent councilman Jeff Laugero filed to seek re-election to another four-year term; incumbent and current Mayor Gary Haskin did not.

Joining Laugero as the candidates on the ballot will be Will Smith, who lists an address on Briarwood and Superintendent/Business Owner as his occupation on the San Joaquin County candidate list; and Walter Murken, with an address on Arroya, and a retired Police Chief.

Murken has previously served on the council. Escalon does not run by districts; it is an at-large election. The two candidates polling the most votes in November will earn the seats. Each seat is for a four-year term.
