Labor Day Holiday Fast Approaching

It is considered the ‘last hurrah’ of summer, the long Labor Day holiday weekend, and it is coming up.

The long holiday period – which will see an increase in the number of police patrols out on local highways and waterways – kicks off on Friday, Sept. 4 and runs through the end of the day Monday, Sept. 7. Authorities said they will have a coordinated regional effort to crack down on drinking and driving, texting and driving, seatbelt use and more, with the goal of keeping the highways safer, and will also patrol the waterways to check for inebriated and reckless boaters.

Labor Day, observed annually on the first Monday in September, is a federal holiday, so there will be no mail delivery that day, post offices will be closed, banks and other businesses have the option of closing. There will be no school that day in the local area either, as residents enjoy a three-day weekend to close out the summer season.

City offices will be closed on Monday as well, and the newspaper office will close in observance of the holiday.
