The next ‘Science Saturday’ is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1 at noon, when Jordan Reading, also known as the ‘Science Wizard’ will wow kids and adults with his crazy science experiments that are interactive and definitely shows kids how cool science can be. Monday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m., the 2016 One Book, One San Joaquin program hosts Dance Around the World with Nikola Clay. Learn several easy folk dances, and sing, laugh and dance your way around the world with Nikola Clay. Also don’t forget Toddler/Preschool Storytime each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. The Escalon branch is at 1540 Second St.

There’s still time to get your tickets for Saturday’s Relay For Life ‘Brats Beer and Bunco’ event. The fundraiser, set for Saturday, Oct. 1, will be hosted at the Escalon Grange Hall, 1840 Main St., and start with the brats and beer at 6 p.m., bunco begins at 7 p.m. Cost is $30 per ticket, which includes one beer to go along with the brats. Additional drink tickets will be available on site. This is a fundraiser for the Nuts for Life relay team and tickets are available by contacting Suzanne Longstreth at 838-2892 or Sandy Bomer at 845-2647. Tickets are also available from any Nuts for Life team member.

Oak Valley Art Society is getting prepared for its annual Fall Art Show on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16. It is a member-only show, but the art society is gladly taking new members. Mediums are Oil, Acrylic, Water Media, Drawing, Pastels, Graphics, Photography, and Sculpture. Youth submissions are welcome in all mediums. For more information, call Evelyn Cooper at 838-3095.

Escalon High School Band Boosters are hosting a unique fundraiser and the winner will be crowned ‘King of the Couch’ for the Friday night, Oct. 21 home varsity football game. That is also EHS Senior Night, when the Cougars will host the rival Ripon Indians. Tickets are on sale from Escalon band members, band boosters and at home football games. Tickets are $5 each. The winner and a guest will have exclusive rights to sit on a comfortable couch during the game, close to all the action. Also included will be a pizza dinner, a gift basket filled with snacks, drinks, spirit wear items and gift cards.

After several years at the helm, Deverie Voral is stepping down from overseeing the Miss Escalon Pageant and Scholarship Program. The search is on for a new coordinator to take over, which will include recruiting candidates for the pageant as well as organizing the actual pageant next July during Park Fete Week and the follow-up events during the year that require appearances by Miss Escalon and her court. Stanislaus County Office of Education’s Prevention Programs Department will host the annual “Friend to Friend” Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Modesto Centre Plaza, 1000 L St., from 8:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. With a theme of “Rhythms and Resilience,” this year’s conference will focus on student mental health and wellness through music and the arts. According to event coordinators, this conference will emphasize the importance of healthy relationships and outlets for coping with stress, and creating a stigma-free school campus that is supportive of all students. The conference is expected to attract more than 600 middle- and high school students from across the Central Valley.

Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank.
